Welcome to the home of DJ Styla
Raised around music is was no surprise that by the early 90's Styla was setting up his first belt driven turntables. The next few years would consist of many trips to London searching record shops for those much needed vinyl records he was hearing on the pirate radio stations. Starting his journey under the influence of Oldskool Hardcore, Jungle and Drum N Bass, it wasn't long before he was able to start playing out at various gigs.
His first big booking was at 'String Fellows' in London in 1994 for 'The Big Apple' and from there he knew music was always going to be a part of his life.
The late 90's saw a change in direction for Styla with UK Garage arriving and the opportunity to play on the legendary pirate station Mac FM 92.7 with DJ Big AL, MC Crazy & Twist, the Funky Fabulous Crew, every saturday night.
In 1999 Styla teamed up with DJ Replay after becoming friends when he moved from Oxford to London. Replay was a raw talented DJ that had some success in Oxford in his early days and shared the same taste in music as Styla. They started a show on Flare FM 89.6 often doing long shows with various DJ's & MC's including regular shows with goodfriend DJ Mad-E.
The following year Replay and Styla become 'Double Dappa', they started producing tracks and moved to a regular show on Touchdown FM 107.6 on a prime time slot.
Candyman, who first introduced Styla to Flare FM helped them make a move to Flex FM 103.6 in 2001 where they showcased their love of Breakbeat. They become residents for a while at Fire in Vauxhall on a Saturday night.
R.I.P Mark 'DJ Replay' Coldham.
Onto 2002, Styla moved to Funky & Electro House music alongside Breakbeat.
This led him to a weekly show on Passion FM 91.8 for a few years. Through his time at Passion FM he enjoyed playing resident sets at Camden Palace for 'Pure Oldskool' & 'Promised Land', amongst others, times he will never forget.
Styla joined Unknown FM 90.2 around 2005 where he stayed for a few year before returning to Passion FM for a short spell.
2008 Styla launched UPFrontRadio.com with Waynoss, a friend interested in music that had the technical knowhow to build a website and start streaming. After a brief airing on the FM dial Styla continued with UPFrontRadio and it changed to co.uk.
The station had great online success, attracting many names, running over 40 DJ's and streams on Facebook viewed well into tens of thousands of times.
During this time Styla had some Deep House tracks released and was concentrating on production, his DJ'n took a bit of a back seat for a while.
In 2017 Styla brought in a long time friend and oldskool DJ 'Mad-E' as he was known at the time, we all know him now as Junglist Souljah and one half of UPFrontRadio.Live, they both run the station still online.
You can catch Styla every Saturday 8-10pm (GMT) live on UPFrontRadio.Live where he plays Breakbeat, Breaks, Bass Music & NuSkool.
